option to have sidebar hidden onload

otherwise we have to make an extension to do it, and it flicks and moves around on load which is jarring

to be clear: tm should NOT load with the sidebar at all. do not simply load it and then hide it (don't want the UI to flash at all on load — the flashing hack is possible with extensions, just jarring)
