man what is up with the scrolling! why do things have to completely disappear and get reconstructed whenever u scroll right past it. so much stuff happening thats weird. the virtual scrolling thing is maybe a bit too tightly configured
Hmm how is this still an issue? Can you send a very clear video describing the issue so I can fix it once and for all?
Btw, you can simple disable it completely in the settings > general > untick the “display more messages in long chats”

ok i will work on the video but at a quick overview, the main problem is that unlike for normal messages (when theres like less than 100 messages in the chat thread), once it starts that funky pagination thing, then the INSTANT a message goes out of viewport, it gets destroyed and when it comes back it is recreated. is there a way to not do that? maybe load in batches but the instant destruction and creation causes issues w some plugins/extensions too. the entire structure of the dom changes once you hit 100 messages
i don’t think it always used to be like that. there was a time when it was working well iirc

C (scroll back to the counter — it was completely destroyed and recreated)
fyi this is with no extensions, to illustrate the point. this doesn’t happen when theres just the first 100. then everything seems to get destroyed and recreated. whats the point of the batching feature if this is the case?
TLDR the virtual scrolling implementation is way way way too aggressive to the point of unusable. maybe keep the bottom X always active (like 200 or whatever) and instead of deleting the thing the user JUST created, “delete”/recycle from the top (older messages)
Also, unticking “display more messages in long chats“ does not fix this

Ah ok, thanks for the details. Two things here:
Lazy rendering causing messages to lose state (your counter app example), I’ll make it so that when the “Display more messages in long chats” is disabled, lazy rendering will also be disabled, this will fix it.
The original scrolling behavior: ideally, I want to make it so that lazy rendering should not cause any issue when scrolling, I can’t reproduce this issue from my side, but since you report that you see the issue with scrolling, I want to fix that the right way (not by disabling lazy render, although you can do that if you don’t mind the performance hit). To fix this scrolling issue, I would really love to see a video record of the screen to really understand what’s going on, so if you can still help me record a video, that would be awesome!
