freezes on load
when u load the app and u start typing, u get like a word in and then it freezes. u can see that it is because the sidebar is loading all chats. (it goes from blank to filled after). can that be optimized. it is painful on every load to get a jarring freeze when typing
i have about 4.5k chats (most of them archived). i stopped archiving them bc tm has a bug with it but thats not the point of this particular issue.
maybe dont try to load everything if the sidebar is closed (and allow loading the chat w it closed?)

Thanks for reporting. Just to confirm, the freeze only happens once for every load, right? After that, everything is normal?
I'm trying to narrow down the cause.

A. yes, once for load at least. so load the page (no extensions). then start typing immediately like “the weather out“ and then it freezes (sidebar is empty) and then then unfreezes after about a second and the sidebar is now filled and then u can type or see that you typed “side is great“
i ALSO wonder if it could be related to possibly greater idb message sizes since this does coincide with gemini flash release and i might have some threads and each image it makes is like 1MB+
maybe u can offload that idb stuff to a web worker or something.

B. that said, it DOES also happen after the load. like if i just keep typing it will freeze now and then. i think there might be some correlation with when it freezes and when the sync thing completes bc like a second after the dot disappears it freezes. i dont even sync my chats or attachments (but do everything else)
note that this happened every time u leave the tab and switch back to it it seems (bc its trying to resync for changes presumably)

C. one last thing is that i see that in chrome it says memory usage is very high like 5gb per tab and stuff often but that one i am not gonna formally file about yet bc it could be my extensions (which i turned off to file this post)

I’ve tested the app with more than 50,000 chats and I don’t see any problem with loading/freezing, especially after the latest performance update.
I suspect this may have to do with the content of the chats that I may have missed during the performance optimization.
Is there anything that stands out from your usage pattern of TypingMind that may help me to narrow down the cause here? I’m trying to replicate what you have on your device but it’s quite vague at the moment.

hey tony thanks for getting back to this. did you make any changes recently? i installed OS - macOS Tahoe yesterday. and since using it (on chrome same mbp), i no longer notice that severe issue on typingmind.com. i def notice it slightly if i pay attention, but its mostly gone enough.
i think its possible the OS might have made some optimizations that are working in our favor. that said, i’m very happy to hear that you are focused on performance related issues - that’s extremely appreciated.
additionally, in the spirit of answering you question in case i can provide some value, i do have some additional data in my chats. i have my own key in some indexeddb chats, which stored various things including large sections of chat (which were compressed away), but kept there in case i need it for back up. however, the issues described here are with fresh chats. thanks!

One of the optimizations we made recently was to remove the need to load the entire IndexedDB to memory, which definitely helped in your case.
